Maryland Senate Votes To Decriminalize Small Quantities of Cannabis

Last month, Maryland took its first major step toward decriminalizing small quantities of marijuana. In a bipartisan vote of 30-16 in favor of making possession of ten grams of marijuana or less a civil issue rather than a criminal one, which would turn the existing $500 fine and up to nine months in jail to a measly $100 fine, similar to how California handles recreational marijuana (rather than Colorado's evolving plan).

Study Reveals Majority of Americans Favors Marijuana Legalization

Recently a Pew Research Center study was released showing that a greater number than ever before, 52 percent of all respondents, believed that it was time to legalize marijuana for both recreational and medicinal use. Even since their polling from 2011, support for MJ legalization spiked 11 percent. The tide of public opinion is certainly flowing toward legalization.
