It’s not a pot party, it’s an educational party.
- Don Shultz
This past weekend at the University of Calgary in Canada, a seminar was given by Greenline Academy, a Kelowna-based organization devoted to medical marijuana education. At $330 a pop, tickets were sold out to the seminar, which was geared towards medical marijuana patients or patients who want to get a medical marijuana card, as well as licensed growers and health professionals. “It’s not a pot party, it’s an educational party… We’re not advocates of legalizing it. We’re just into the medical marijuana industry and we look at it as medicine for patients,” said Don Shultz, who founded GreenLine Academy.
On Saturday morning, Donald Skogstad, a defense lawyer with 15 years of marijuana cases under his belt spoke to a packed crowd. He discussed the various forms and applications needed to grow medical marijuana and gave an update on the latest legislation policies. Next up was a talk by a clinical herbalist, who informed attendees of the various therapeutic applications of different strains of medical marijuana, as well as dosage strategies for each. This covered dosages of smoking, edibles, concentrates and topicals. Sunday was devoted to teaching the newest cultivation techniques, from flowering to harvesting.
Thousands of Canadians currently hold medical marijuana cards, and Health Canada is now looking into improving the overall medical marijuana program. The group is proposing such improvements like ensuring that suppliers go through pre-qualification audits, pre-license inspections and audits on an ongoing basis.
“These improvements are basically intended to reduce risk of abuse, keep children and communities safe, specifically while significantly improving the way the program participants access marijuana for medical purposes,” said Health Canada spokesman Stephane Shank.
