A good budtender must have a genuine desire to help people.

What does it take to be a good budtender?
To be a good budtender one must posses a basic knowledge of the broad range of cannabis products available and their medicinal properties. One must have a very clear understanding of the differences between Cannabis Indica, Cannabis Sativa, to be familiar with hybrid strains (50/50) and to know which strains are Cannabis Ruderalis.
One must also have a genuine desire to help people and the desire to learn as much as possible about cannabis as medicine.
What's your most recent, interesting patient experience or interaction?
My most recent interesting patient experience was one with a senior citizen who was referred to our dispensary by their doctor. The member had never tried cannabis, was nervous and unsure but following the advice of their doctor. The member has a condition that does not allow the body to feel hunger, or to properly process/digest or hold down any food. The member expressed that oral intake of the medicine is preferred.
The member was given recommendations for some products to try, including snake oil which is a clear hemp oil infused with potent cannabis oil. This medicine is taken orally and has proven to be extremely effective for pain management, sleeping, appetite and effective for use on skin conditions such as psoriasis, skin legions, burns, joint pain and broken bones. The member went off for their first time with a variety of topicals and capsules with clear dosing instructions for each product.
The member returned a week later, was able to find some relief but was still not able to eat. I spoke with the member about the fastest intake method, especially when dealing with a condition such as this; smoking/vaporizing.
The member was weary at first—did not even know where to start. I showed the member what a vaporizer is, taught the member how they work and educated the member on harm reduction. That same visit the member was off with several pre-rolled joints with instructions on how to inhale the medicine.
Later that same week, the member was back. Smile larger than life! The member ate! Back for more pre-rolls, sadly we were temporarily out of stock on those. One more lesson with this member and the member was off with some buds to the community smoke shop for a rolling machine and some papers. We see the member regularly, the member is eating and happily consuming their medicine.
What strain is the most popular?
The most popular strain here is a three way tie. Bubba Kush (Indica dominant) for it's painkilling properties and effectiveness with insomnia. Hashplant (Indica) is one of the best strains to date for pain relief, sleep and appetite. OG Kush (Sativa dominant) for it's effectiveness for migraine, depression and overall mood.
What's your favorite strain and why?
My favorite strain, most days is OG Kush. However, sometimes a very strong Indica (Bubba Kush) is required for pain or anxiety.
