Cannabis College Opens In Seattle
To produce medicinal-grade cannabis, it takes some skill, some knowledge, some know-how.
The summer is over and it’s back to school time. Only this year, the course load includes classes like marijuana law, medical marijuana production, cannabis cloning, cooking with cannabis, and many other subjects a regular college wouldn’t teach.
Luckily, Seattle’s Academy of Cannabis Culture and Technology--or ACC Tech--is unlike any other college. The student body is made up of medical marijuana patients and providers and the instructors are law experts, grow specialists, and seasoned advocates. All of students must be authorized to use medical marijuana.
Jason Semer founded the school because the Washington laws changed drastically and many in the community were left bewildered. As of a recent legal development, patients are allowed to cultivate a small supply or join a co-op garden but are no longer allowed to purchase from dispensaries. The school is aimed at developing the skills of new growers and teaching them how to comply and adapt to the ever-changing legal landscape.
"To produce medicinal-grade cannabis, it takes some skill, some knowledge, some know-how," said Jason Semer. "There's a lot of things that you can fail at."
Classes started September 7th and cycle again in October, November, and so on. The 5-course curriculum costs $930. A single 4-week course costs $250. The school also offers the 3-hour law lectures for $50.
